The biggest asset of a company, as they say, are its employees. Employees are essentially the ones running the company from top to bottom. Companies are making sure that they are providing their employees a safe and healthy work environment through good workplace health practices. A lot can be gained with good health consciousness and safer workplace, and it is not just having healthier employees. Productivity is increased with healthier employees and safer working environment. Common workplace health practices will be discussed in this article which will give companies an idea how to execute them for their employees’ benefit. Employees should be checked if they have possible mental health problems or psychological issues that may affect workplace health. Some examples of mental health or psychological issues include work-related stress, harassment of any kind, being burnt out from work or violence in the workplace. Poor performance of an employee may result if these issues are not immediately tackled by the responsible people. A person’s physical and emotional health might be affected by the amount of stress that he or she might be experiencing. During times of an economic downturn, it is very important to keep an eye on the stress level of each employee. Employees losing interest to work, over fatigued, irritable and feeling depressed, withdrawing from interacting with others, might be affected by workplace health deterioration because of stress. Stress can be combated with implementation of good workplace health programs. Getting rid of stress might be impossible, but lessening it will still be great, and by having some outdoor activities or bonding time for the employees will help a company achieve this. The important thing to remember is that the employees should feel that they have an opportunity to let loose with their co-workers outside their workplace. Companies sometimes tend to overlook some common causes of psychological problems and usually, they overlook some forms of emotional and verbal harassments. While the effects of these are not seen instantly, the effects linger on in the mind long after the abuse has taken place. A good workplace health policy should not tolerate any kind of harassment, as these result to employees who are less confident, no interest in working and have low self-esteem. Another common factor to take into consideration in workplace health is the idea of burnout employees. Burnout is usually caused by long term stress. Employees should be assisted by the companies to avoid this certain kind of scenario of being burnout. Neglecting personal needs just to show the company that an he or she is working extremely hard can be the reason for burnout to manifest in an individual. Withdrawal and depression starts to set in and behavioral changes become obvious to others as time passes. As studies suggest, having a social support group in the company’s workplace health program is a great idea. A policy that enforces zero-tolerance can simply solved having any form of harassment in the workplace. Making a workplace more social and simply more fun to be in can solve employees being stress and burnt out. By ensuring that these things are properly implemented in their workplace health policies, companies can have more productive, happier and highly efficient employees.
