Women should consume more water than men because of the risk of urinary infection occurs more frequently in women. Men are lucky to have a urinary tract anatomy is longer than women, so the risk of bacteria into the urinary tract to be reduced.
“The shorter the urinary tract, the easier it and stuck to the bacteria enter the area,” said Dr. Regina Karim, Health Marketing Director of Danone Aqua on the show ‘Aqua Danone Ready to Face Challenges in 2010′ at the Crown Hotel, Jakarta.
According to him, the woman must consume more water because the bladder channel length shorter than men.
“So if the average water consumption is 2 liters a day is recommended, women should drink more than that. Many drinking water will help the bacteria out of the urinary tract and reduce the risk of infection,” explains Regina.
The meaning of the urinary tract is an area which includes the ureters, bladder, and urethra. Urinary tract infections are usually caused by the bacterium E coli. However, it can also be caused by the bacterium Staphylococcus aureus, bacillus proteus, and pseudomonas.
Infections can spread from the lower urinary tract to the top. It can even spread to the kidneys. Symptoms of urinary tract infection may be a slightly increased body temperature, pain, especially when the end of urination, feeling of wanting to urinate that can not be detained, tenderness over the pubic bone. Sometimes there is blood in the urine.
Based on the results of a study conducted three leading universities in Indonesia (FEMA IPB, FKM UNAIR and UNHAS) showed that 46.1 percent of the 1200 Indonesian population experiencing mild dehydration, and one of the reasons is lack of knowledge of society about the importance of drinking water.
In fact, according to research led by Prof. Dr. Ir Hardinsyah, MS from the Faculty of Human Ecology, Bogor Agricultural University, shortage of one to two percent of the water alone can cause brain dysfunction such as lack of concentration and thinking ability. In the top 2 percent, the body can experience headaches, fatigue, weakness, muscle movement and disturbed, urinary infections and kidney stones until death.
Study results also showed more teens experiencing mild dehydration than adults, ie 49.5 per cent compared to 42.5 percent.
“Young women especially, more dehydrated. And the main reason just being lazy to the bathroom especially if the bathroom is dirty and smelly. Yet the factors that could cause urinary tract infections are one of them to stop urinating. Should, if you want to pee, directly into the toilet , “said Regina.
In women, lack of drinking water can also cause whitish due to bacteria and fungi will be attached to the pubic. However, the use of vaginal cleanser medication unnecessary.
“There is no need to use cleaners like that because instead of just the bad bacteria will die, but the good bacteria can die. Just drink plenty of water and properly clean the genital area after urination,” said Regina.
Regina also added, which was dry mouth is a sign of early dehydration. “If it is so, we recommend drinking and urinating directly if you really want to pee,” he said.
