Even accepting that, would they be any less corrupt as a private organisation? What about people that couldnt afford private police services? You know, generally the people that need then the most?

First of all go download the constitution of the United States and read it. Second who hires runs and pays for the police? How are they paid? Think very carefully about this i wouldn't want your brain to explode.

Hello Lemon,The police and fire department are not socialized because they are hired by and paid by the city in which they work in. They are not hired and run by the Government of the US. Furthermore just because funds are provided is insufficient for socialism, public provisioning of schools is there to support capitalism.

They are hired by the *local* government. It is still a form of socialized benefit, just provided by a different hierarchy of government. Stop thinking in terms of absolutes.

Singapore is supposed to have public hospitals which are far better than private ones. It would seem to be a great example of socialism. China is also a pretty socialized state by many measures. It is not that socialized is necessarily better than privatized or vice versa. It all has to do with implementation. In the US, there is plenty evidence socialism is a failure, but in other countries it works. Maybe has to do with American's overentrepreneurial-ness.

Today, I got a note from a friend of mine who just had yet another heart attack. It seems his stent is now blocked by 50%. He is a vet, and his primary care is the Veterans Administration. The Veterans Hospital system will not do a procedure to unblock the stent until it is 70% blocked. He does not have any money, so he is simply waiting to have another heart attack. I am really looking forward to government-run health care.

The question here is if privately insured people face the same problems. Perhaps it is the cost of medical procedures and supplies that need to be looked at. There are countries where people prefer to pay out of their own pocket rathr than rely on insurance for precisely these issues. Insured healthcare can be so inflexible as to be useless most of the time.

In my opinion, I support the healthcare reform. however I do not agree with the vid completely. the government run healthcare system might at first not be so good and efficient, cause they admitted that they believe less then 5% of people would choose such a plan. But I think they can improve apon it.
