A recent study reported decreased levels of the brain’s ability workers after passing through the holiday season.

From 2004 to 2008, The Hartford, an insurance company in Connecticut conducted a survey and analyze more than one million cases of brain degeneration, or ‘short-term disability’ due to long holidays. Experts suspect it is because the brain seldom sharpened during the holidays.

In America, short-term disability known to a lot happened in November and December. However, in January and February, a brain degeneration disease that moment it was followed by various diseases such as depression, respiratory illness and injuries. As many as two thirds of the participants are known to experience these symptoms.

Such symptoms are not something peculiar longer there because at that time was the winter where the air temperature can be very low so that it can increase the risk of colds, coughs, respiratory disorders, accidents and depression.

“People are very glad when the holidays arrive, because they could congregate with family and friends. But when the month of January came and they must undergo a routine work again with the cold weather and sunshine is less then the risk of stress and depression will increase. This enables the occurrence of degeneration of brain activity and productivity, “said Glenn Shapiro, vice president of The Hartford, as reported by the New York Times.

Instead of summer, respiratory problems occurred twice more in the winter. Those who have respiratory problems is that more experienced short-term disability, especially those who suffer from pneumonia (pneumonia).

“When cold, the body is unhealthy and coupled with the long vacation, someone will be more prone to the syndrome ‘lazy’ that makes the body and brain are less productive when the holidays were over,” said Shapiro, who was a consultant to health.

Meanwhile, a high accident rate due to cold weather conditions and slippery roads. But according to Shapiro, the concentration factor was also influential in driving the vehicle. Those who experience short-term disability would be more difficult to concentrate and eventually raises the risk of accidents.

“People are usually reluctant to return to work after the holidays, especially if the condition is ill. To that end, during the holidays should still do the activities that can sharpen the brain and try to keep the body healthy condition so that symptoms of short-term disability does not happen,” explained Shapiro .
