Bengal gram or chick pea (Channa) is considered to be the most important pulses in India. Basically it is consumed in the form of dried seeds or dal, which prepared by splitting of the seeds into two halves by separating it from the husk.

It is widely cultivated in the areas of Burma, India, Egypt, Ethiopia, South America, Australia and Mediterranean countries. It can be consumed in cooked, boiled or sprouts form. Its flour is widely used in Indian confectionery for preparing snacks like chila, pakoras, sev.

It has many medicinal properties. It is a reliable tonic for the body if taken soaked on water for whole night and later chewed in the morning with honey. Sprouted Bengal gram is found to be enriched with vitamin C and B-complex.

How Bengal Gram is useful in curing several health ailments?

Diabetes: For diabetic patients it is advised to include the liberal intake of Bengal gram in their diet which may help in regularizing the blood sugar level at the fasting time.

Anaemia: To cure anaemia it is advised that one tbsp of fresh gram juice mixed with honey should be taken one time a day to have beneficial results.

Digestive System Disorder: To cure various digestive problems such as vomiting, indigestion, diarrohea, dysentery and dyspepsia, it is advised that an acid of the Bengal gram should be collected by way of dew drops on the leaves which gathered by covering the leaves whole night with a piece of white cloth.

Painful Menstruation: For curing problems related to painful menstruation it is advised that a hot bath should be taken with putting Bengal gram plant in hot water to have beneficial results.

Skin and Hair Disease: The flour of this gram is really beneficial in curing skin problems such as dermatitis, eczema, scabies, pimples, acne, etc. It is advised that the Bengal gram flour should be mixed with curd and applied over the affected area to have beneficial results.

Ingredients:

2 cups Bengal gram dal

6 cups Onions

4 tsp Green chilly

2 cups Fresh coconut finely chopped

1 cup Cucumber sliced

Salt to taste

Coriander leaves

1tsp Lemon juice

Preparation:

•Soak the Bengal Gram dal for overnight and wash it with running water and keep it aside.

•After one hour grind the dal coarsely.

•After that take one bowl and thoroughly mix the mashed dal, green chili, cucumber, coconut, lemon juice, salt and onions into it.

•Once done decorate it with mint leaves and serve.
