The vagina can be best describe as an opening in the woman body, used mainly for the purpose of excretion and reproduction. 

The Vagina has three coats: The innermost, the middle and the outermost.

The inner most: is the skin of squamous epithelium, covering the outer part of the vagina

The middle most;  are two thin coats of an unstripped muscle, with an inner circular and an outer longitudinal one, mainly covering the middle part of the vagina.

The outermost coat:  is a connective tissue coat that is well supplied with blood by branches of the uterine and vagina arteries.

The epithelium of the vagina is in many folds, or rugae, and this combined with the thin muscle allow tremendous dilation during labour.

 

The vagina is very sensitive to both fungi and bacteria, thus care must be taken in handling the issue of its health.

The vagina is mainly used for excretion of waste product from the body, like urine, discharge. Its also a part of reproductive organ and a sexual organ used for our maximum pleasure.

 

The vagina is related to the anal canal in the middle third to the rectum and in the third upper third to the pouch of Douglas. Around it are the clitoris which corresponds to the penis in the male and it also has an erectile tissue. It lies between the prepuce and the frenulum and it is attached to symphysis pubis by a suspensory ligament.

 

The hymen is just a thin layer of mucus membrane which partially occludes the opening of the vagina, and this is broken when the woman is disvirgined.
