The menstruation is defined as monthly discharge of blood from the uterus of non-pregnant woman from the period of puberty to menopause. Stopped menstrual flow is a major indication for conceiving a child. The normal menstrual flow comes for 3-5 days and the normal cycle pattern range from 24-32 days.
The irregular menses is labeled when a lady suffers from the bleeding that is not related to the regular cycle, when periods are longer and heavier as compare to normal, when there is no or missed periods etc. When the time or gap between two periods is longer or shorter than that of normal or if there is any uterine bleeding, then also the condition falls under menstruation disorders or irregular menstruation. For a woman, both the ends (i.e. starting and ending of menstrual life is irregular and is considered as normal or physiological.
Many times, these menstruations become very troublesome to a woman. It can bring abdominal pain or headache in a very severe manner. Irregular period are one of the most common problems and it must have struck the woman at least once in her life. Keeping notes of the dates when one had menstrual period and compare with the forthcoming is the best way to judge the menstrual cycle and its regularity. About 30% of women in their reproductive life suffer from the irregular menstrual periods.
There are lot many causes, which can interfere with the regularity of the menstrual periods. Some of the important factors are described below.
The poor diet and extreme weight loss or weight gain can affect the hormonal levels in the body. A woman with bulimia and anorexia often complain irregular or no menstrual periods. If a woman is malnourished, she is more susceptible to have irregular menstrual periods. Excessive hot and spicy food may prolong the menstrual cycle along with the disturbance in digestive system. If one has it, she may also suffer from increased bleeding and very much pain during the menstrual flow.
Intense or heavy exercises can make the body weak. This also causes the menstrual cycle to be irregular. Carrying heavy load and lifting the objects that is out of one’s strength may cause the pain and irregularity in menstrual cycle and so the flow.
Many times, birth control pills and irregular periods of menstrual cycle go hand in hand. Woman’s body takes a while to adjust to the newer levels of hormones those are delivered by the hormonal birth control pills as a supplement.
Woman’s body produces various levels of the hormones and certain new hormones when she becomes pregnant. Once, the pregnancy is achieved, the menstrual flow stops and the cycle disappears. This is considered as physiological, and is said to be normal being the major indication of conception. Even after baby’s birth, there may be irregularity in menstruation cycle and is considered as normal.

Latest researches now fully agree with the stress, being one of the major affecting factors for irregular menstruation. If the woman is worried, stressful, having anxiety or depression, she may miss the menstrual flow or may end up with profuse bleeding.
It plays major role in menstruation. The cycle gets disturbed when one has lactation period. In majority of the cases, the menstrual cycle disappears during lactation.
This is again a normal physiological sign. When a girl attends her first period, it is quite natural to have irregularity in initial stages of menstrual flow with pain or discomfort in the body. In a same way, when a woman reaches her menopause phase, there will be irregularity in the menstrual flow.
Symptoms begin with very less or profuse bleeding. Bleeding occurs apart from the regular menses. The gap between two menstrual periods is either longer or shorter as compare to normal cycle. There is a pain in flanks, back just above the pelvic region. Change in mood and irritability is quite common.
Lack of interest, anorexia, insomnia etc is not uncommon in a woman suffering from irregular menstruation. Sometimes a woman passes hot flesh and this is the condition to be taken utmost care about.
Generally, a woman ignores her irregular menstrual periods thinking that they will be okay by next cycle. Sometimes, there may be some other underlying complications causing irregularity in the menstrual cycle. One has to be careful for this type of menses as once, it turns to a major disease, it becomes difficult to treat.
As a complication, irregular menses may interfere with the ovulation as It may turn into some disease like polycystic ovary syndrome in which, there is a cyst that disturbs the normal ovulation. Dandruff, acne, weight gain, excessive hair growth and high blood pressure are common. Ovarian cancer, endometriosis and heart disease are later complicated stages those are rare to occur.
The prevention of irregular menstruation depends on the causes. The root or underlying cause is to be avoided first. For this, one has to go for regular check up of the ovaries and uterus. Regular medical check up in reproductive age of a woman is the best to avoid any dangers.
Reduce your weight if you fall under the obesity category.
Try to be in good mood. Avoid stress, anxiety, depression and worries.
In Ayurveda, it is suggested that non-vegetarian diet in excess is to be avoided during the irregular menstruation.
Stale, decayed and canned foods are to be avoided.
One has to avoid heavy exercises. Lifting, pulling and pushing heavy objects is equally harmful.

Smoking, alcohol and carbonated beverages are to be restricted.

In a case of weakness and lethargy, you can go for a chicken soup or vegetable soup with little spice like black pepper or ginger. The combination of cereals and pulses (as in South Indian diet) is very beneficial in treating the irregular menstruation. This is considered as rich source of Vitamin B complex.

It always amazes me that FITNESS is a multi-billion dollar industry… Yet a solid, concise and universal definition of fitness is hard to nail down.
Just ask someone participating in a physical fitness program, or even someone in the fitness industry for that matter, to give you a clear definition of fitness.
You will most likely be met with the “deer caught in the headlights” stare accompanied by nonsensical stammering.
If you do get an answer, it will most likely be slanted toward the specific abilities of the person asked.
For example…
A marathon runner will define fitness in terms of muscular and cardiorespiratory endurance… A power-lifter will define fitness in terms of absolute strength… A bodybuilder will define fitness in terms of muscle size and definition… etc.
But the overwhelming majority of people participating in a physical fitness program are not professional athletes concerned with the improvement of only one physical ability.
Therefore, basing your definition of fitness on one specific physical skill does not lead to a universal definition of fitness.
The fact is, your physical fitness success will be determined by your definition of fitness… So take some time to make sure you have a clear fitness definition.
Once you see how much a clear definition of fitness can improve your physical training, you will wonder how you ever physically trained in the past without one.
So what would a universal definition of fitness be for someone who wanted to physically train to become a better, all-around human being?
I’m glad you asked… but let’s take it step by step.
Here is a GOOD Fitness Definition…
The degree of competence and skill to perform in ALL the physical abilities of cardiorespiratory endurance, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance, accuracy and toughness.
I can already hear the criticism from the athletic crowd… You cannot “maximize” the performance of all the physical abilities in this fitness definition at the same time.
And they are absolutely right!
Fitness is not about the “maximization” of one particular physical skill at one particular point in time, but rather the “optimization” of all physical skills at any given time.
Fitness is a compromise of all the different physical skills that make up human activity.
Look at it this way…
Let’s say all of the physical skills were tested separately.
Some specialized athletes would score very high on some physical skills… and very low on others.
But a person that personified true, universal fitness would score well on all of the physical skills… without necessarily being the best at any one skill.
Here is an EXCELLENT Fitness Definition…
The acceptable and deliberate compromise of competence and ability to perform in ALL the areas of cardiorespiratory endurance, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance, accuracy and toughness to produce optimum performance results under the greatest amount of circumstances.
Not only is universal fitness a compromise of all the physical abilities… but it is the over-all ability to integrate all of the physical abilities and flow from one ability to the next in a seamless fashion to successfully complete a task.
So, what would adopting this definition of fitness do for you?
Your physical fitness training program would be assessed according to how well it “optimized” all the physical skills and not just how well it “maximized” one particular skill at the expense of all others.
Basically, structuring your physical training to improve all the physical skills of this fitness definition would enable you to greatly improve over-all physical performance in a wider variety of activities.
Now isn’t that why most of us physically train?
Study this definition of fitness and use it to measure your current physical fitness training program.

Menstruation Disorder V – Understanding Menorrhagia: Definition, Causes and Symptoms

I. Introduction
As we mentioned in previous articles menstruation is the shedding of the uterine lining. It is normal to the reproductive system of women and happens on a regular basis. Normal menstruation happens around 3 to 7 days. During the monthly menstrual cycle, female sex hormones prepare the uterus to support a pregnancy. If pregnancy happens, menstruation will be suspended until giving birth of a child, abortion, or miscarriage. Otherwise the uterine lining sheds and menstrual blood, tissues, fluid and mucus leave the body through the vagina caused by natural reaction in the female reproductive system from low levels of certain growth hormones.
II. Menorrhagia
The last stage of the menstrual cycle is the shedding of an endometrial lining’s blood vessels. Normally,the process of blood forming clots occurs(coagulation) to limit and repair the damaged blood vessel resulting in a stoppage of blood flow. Menorrhagia is an abnormally heavy and prolonged menstrual period with excessive menstrual bleeding lasting longer than 7 days or blood loss exceeding 80 ml caused by abnormal blood clotting, disruption of normal hormonal regulation of periods, or disorders of the endometrial lining of the uterus.
Since normal menstrual cycle about 28 days in duration, with bleeding lasting an average of total blood loss less than 80 mL, women with menorrhagia over the menstruation may have blood loss greater than the body’s iron reserves and reproduced by the body leading to anemia.
III. Causes
1. Stress
Women whp cannot adjust to events in life that are stressful, or seem to be stressful in their mind causes hormone imbalance resulting in overproduction of either estrogen or progesterone.
2. Hormone imbalance
For whatever reason, heavy blood flow may also occur for most women.
3. Vitamin K deficiency
Vitamin K is blood coagulation. Normally produced by bacteria in the intestine, women with intestine diseases may not produce enough vitamin K to stop the heavy flowing of blood during menstruation.
4. Anemia
Women with the type of anemia having red blood cells breaking down faster than normal people, may also have heavy flowing of blood during menstruation caused by regular blood flow and breaking off of red blood cells thereby, reducing the coagulation function.
5. Perimenopause
Women in the perimenopause normally have higher levels of estrogen levels and lower levels of progesterone because ovulation is less consistent.
IV. Symptoms
1. Spotting or bleeding between menstrual periods
2. Excessive menstrual bleeding
3. Heavy period
4. Symptoms of anemia (caused by loss of iron in the blood)
5. Constant pain in the lower abdomen during menstrual period
6. Irregular menstrual periods

Stroke is a disease that affects the blood vessels that supply blood to the brain. Without blood to supply oxygen and nutrients and to remove waste products, brain cells quickly begin to die. Stroke is sometimes called a “brain attack. Stroke is a medical emergency and can cause permanent neurological damage or even death if not promptly diagnosed and treated. It is the third leading cause of death and the leading cause of adult disability in the United States and industrialized European nations. Stroke is the third leading cause of death in the United States and the leading cause of disability. Stroke kills about 150, 000 Americans each year, or almost one out of three stroke victims. Strokes affect blacks more often than whites, and are more likely to be fatal among blacks. Men have more strokes than women. But, women have a risk of stroke during pregnancy and the weeks immediately after pregnancy. The cause of stroke is an interruption in the blood supply, with a resulting depletion of oxygen and glucose in the affected area. This immediately reduces or abolishes neuronal function, and also initiates an ischemic cascade which causes neurons to die or be seriously damaged, further impairing brain function. Risk factors for stroke include advanced age, hypertension (high blood pressure), previous stroke or TIA (transient ischaemic attack), diabetes mellitus, high cholesterol, cigarette smoking, atrial fibrillation, migraine with aura, and thrombophilia. Practice blood pressure is the most important modifiable risk factor of stroke.
Many other risk factors, such as cigarette smoking cessation and treatment of atrial fibrillation with anticoagulant drugs, are important. There are two main types of stroke. One (ischemic stroke) is caused by blockage of a blood vessel. Usually this type of stroke results from clogged arteries, a condition called atherosclerosis. Fatty deposits collect on the wall of the arteries, forming a sticky substance called plaque. Other (hemorrhagic stroke) is caused by bleeding. Bleeding strokes have a much higher fatality rate than strokes caused by clots. Some people have defects in the blood vessels of the brain that make this more likely. The flow of blood after the blood vessel ruptures damages brain cells. Hemorrhage (or bleeding) from an artery in the brain can be caused by a head injury or a burst aneurysm. Aneurysms are blood-filled pouches that balloon out from weak spots in the artery wall. They’re often caused or made worse by high blood pressure. Aneurysms aren’t always dangerous, but if one bursts in the brain, they cause a hemorrhagic stroke. Symptoms of a stroke include sudden numbness or weakness, especially on one side of the body; sudden confusion or trouble speaking or understanding speech; sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes; sudden trouble with walking, dizziness, or loss of balance or coordination and sudden severe headache.
There are several available treatments for Stroke. Oxygen may be given to be sure that your brain is getting the maximal amount. Taking birth control pills is generally safe for young, healthy women. Treatment of blood pressure that is too high or too low may be necessary in treating a stroke. Ischemic stroke is treated by removing obstruction and restoring blood flow to the brain. A patient is given antiplatelet medication (aspirin, clopidogrel, dipyridamole), or anticoagulant medication (warfarin), dependent on the cause, when this type of stroke has been found. TPA is most important new treatments over the last few years for the immediate treatment of a stroke is a medicine called tPA(Tissue Plasminogen Activator). use of Heparin and Aspirin drugs to thin the blood (anticoagulation; for example, heparin) are also sometimes used in treating stroke patients in the hopes of improving the patient’s recovery. Rehabilitation can also take place at a nursing facility. The rehabilitation process can include some or all of the following: (1) speech therapy to relearn talking and swallowing; (2) occupational therapy to regain dexterity in the arms and hands; (3) physical therapy to improve strength and walking; and (4) family education to orient them in caring for their loved one at home and the challenges they will face.
