The Secret to Live Longer

Many ways that can be done to keep living longer. Ranging from consulting with a doctor, eat all ills food remedy, sport, smiling, even there is some going to shaman.
Did you know, one of the secrets of survival that is often overlooked is to understand ‘the purpose’ of life itself.
If you have a purpose in life, either short or long term, you’ll live longer. This has been demonstrated in a research. No matter what is the goal, or how ambitious you will achieve the goals.
“That goal can be anything, whether it is the purpose of life completely, or get something from an organization, or even the desire to read a series of books,” said Dr. Patricia Boyle, a neuropsychologist at the Rush Alzheimer’s Disease Center quoted from health24, Friday (10/7/2009).
“We found that people who have certain goals in life, tend to die more longer than period of time before it could be compared with those who do not have goals or less goals in life”, said Dr. Patricia Boyle who is also an assistant professor of behavioral sciences at Rush University Medical Center , Chicago.
Boyle and her colleagues did a research on 1238 older adults aged around 78 years old and in a conscious state (not crazy). Initially, participants are required to answer questions about their life goals, then scoring on life goals listed to determine the level of their desire to reach that goal.
Apparently based on the results of these evaluations, the average score is 3.7 which is less from the standard 5.
When comparing the scores, Boyle found that those with a purpose score higher than 5 tend to die much longer during the research period (3 years). While those who scored less than 5 are more quickly died before the research period ended.
“This is actually real and happening, even after we examine several other factors such as depression, medical conditions and various other distractions,” explained Boyle.
“What we want to convey here is, if we find a purpose in life, or if we feel life is meaningless and there are several objectives to be achieved, the opportunity to live longer even be achievable,” she added.
Despite that many studies already prove that the purpose of life is very important to maintain mental health and physical as well, Boyle believed that her research is the first study to examine in the large scale of the relationship between purpose in life and live longer.
Then, what is the relationship between goals and live longer ? Boyle was not able to provide the answer with certainty. But she argues, has the purpose of life or life expectancy will most help augment the immune system in the body, and also the initial protection from disease introduction into the body.
This was justified and considered reasonable by Dr. Gary Kennedy, senior director of the Montefiore psychiatrist Medical Center, New York. He said that he often noticed the effects of an elderly patient who does not have the purpose of his life again when sick.
“I saw some people who lost their purpose, and their health was deteriorating,” he said.
But he said, research should continue to be developed to determine the existence of other factors that influence but are not included in the study yet.
