Health Information about Reduce Risk of Breast Cancer
The truth is that the risk of developing breast cancer increases with age. The fact that a family member has had breast cancer is only one of many other risk factors for developing cancer. It is believed that only around 25 percent of all breast cancers develop in women who has had a family member diagnosed with breast cancer. Only 6 percent of these women are known to have been carriers of a specific gene mutation. This means that 75 percent of women have no family history. Hence the need for women to know the other risk factors.
Ones likelihood of being diagnosed with breast cancer are believed to increase if
1. You are over the age of 50
2. A close family member has been diagnosed with breast cancer
3. You have had an early menarche ( the first menstrual period a female has)
4. You have had a late menopause
5. You gave birth to your child later in life over the age of 35
6. You have never given birth
7. You have had atypical cells found from a biopsy
Ones age and genetic s are risk factors associated with breast cancer. These risks cannot be changed but there are lifestyle factors which one needs to be aware of which can reduce one’s risk or being diagnosed with breast cancer.
Below are some areas you can think of to reduce your risks of breast cancer:
If you are able to breast feed one should take advantage it.
Research shows that the risk of breast cancer is reduced by 7% for each baby a woman has and that for every 12 months she breast feeds she decreases the risk by a further 4.3%.
Being overweight does not make you look your best or feel your best. One’s body is put under more pressure and therefore being overweight ages you on the inside. The more overweight you are the more likely your body will be to yield to cancer of the breast, womb, ovary or kidney.
One big reason why obesity is associated with an increased risk of breast cancer is because fat cells produce oestrogen. Oestrogen isn’t formed just by the ovaries. It’s also made by fat cells. Therefore obese women may be more likely to develop breast cancer largely because their bodies produce more oestrogen than thin women do.
If your body produces more than the normal amount of oestrogen , the excessive oestrogen can cause confusion with cells by speeding up its multiplication therefore sometimes causing breast cancer.
It is believed that three hours a week of cardiovascular excercise can reduce your risk of developing breast cancer by 20%
Your risk increases with the volume you drink.
Cancer Research UK gave evidence from a number of researchers who has concluded that even small amounts of alcohol can increase your risk of breast cancer. They also continued to claim that there is unlikely to be a safe level of alcohol which doesn’t increase the risk of breast cancer. Some studies have found that drinking just one unit a day can increase a woman’s chances of developing breast cancer.
