Stopping smoking is difficult. But there’s no harm in trying a new technique, which uses a combination of nicotine patches and lozenges drug. The researchers suggest that this technique is the most powerful techniques to overcome smokers who had quit smoking intentions.

Compared with other methods, such as the use of anti-depressant, the combination technique is best because it still resembles smoke but could reduce the dose and dependence.

“Having analyzed and studied, we found that the technique of combination therapy with nicotine patches and lozenges (materials commonly used in cough medicine to relieve the throat) was the most potent to reduce smoking,” said Dr Jonathan H Whiteson, of Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation and Prevention Center , New York City, as quoted from Health’s health care information.

The reason behind the success of this natural health technique, according to researchers is, there is a constant supply of nicotine in the body and also the active ingredient of lozenges which will increase the presence of nicotine in the mouth.

Effects of this combination therapy, known as the mimic effect, making the smoker feel a great nicotine in their bodies when they do not smoke.

“This health care technique has been successful in reducing smoking to 40 percent within six months. But keep in mind, as long as smokers do this therapy must continue to be motivated and do counseling in order to remain consistent,” explains Megan E Piper, chairman of the study, professor at the Center for Tobacco Research and Intervention at the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

Studies involving 1504 adult smokers was funded by the U.S. National Institutes of Health and lozenges used drugs provided free by the drug company GlaxoSmithKline.

Containing nicotine patches or called with nicotin patch has been available in the market for more than two decades, and is one of the most common product used by pharmacotherapy to help those who want to quit smoking. But the result will be better if combined with nicotin patch lozenges.

“Those who make this combination vowed not to touch a cigarette again after one week and succeeded in not smoking for a whole day,” said Pipper.
