Brain women longer to get a laugh than a man who is more spontaneous. Researchers have found the reason why women need some time to finally be able to laugh off.
So do not be surprised if a man told a joke on a woman but the woman was not immediately laughed. Not because the joke that is not interesting but because women take longer to get a laugh than men.
Studies show that older women laughing because his brain longer to process things with sharp. In his study, researchers scanned the brains to know the difference between the brains of men and women when given a joke. Researchers want to know the time it takes for men and women to be able to laugh after hearing these jokes.
A spectacle of cartoons shown on the participants as a measure for the level of a joke. During watching the film, participants monitored the brain using a brain scanning device. The more brain cells active during these movies, it means that joke interesting.
Brain scan results showed, more women use certain parts of the brain than men, especially the front part of the cortex that serves as a place to process language and thought. It causes women need more time to think and think something is funny or not.
In addition to differences in brain activity, she also reportedly had a level of expectations or low expectations of a joke. Unlike a man who was considered a joke it is interesting from the beginning.
“Women and men have different parts of the nucleus accumbens in the brain. Part of this will influence one’s thinking of the joke. In women, the nucleus accumbens was larger, which means that joke will be processed in the brain longer,” said Professor Allan Reiss of Stanford University, California, as quoted from Dailymail.
Although older women react to a joke, yet researchers say that women are actually faster to find a point of humor than men. The study also reported that men and women use humor for two different purposes.
“Men prefer to use humor to criticize or dominate each other, while women tend to use humor to maintain a relationship to keep it nice and smoothly,” said Prof. Alan.
