Hot weather which is very stinging enough can make distress for the body. Extreme environmental temperatures not only torture but also can increase the risk of disease. Avoid as much as possible.
Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) published NCEH’s Health Studies Branch, Friday (17/7/2009) offers tips to avoid the extreme heat to prevent illnesses.
- Drink more water. Do not wait until thirsty.
- Do not consume alcoholic liquids or sugar in large numbers, because it can reduce the body fluids. Also avoid very cold drinks because it can cause cramping.
- Sit in air-conditioned room. If your house does not have air conditioning, go to places which have air-conditioned room such as mall, a place to read, and others. Sit there a few hours to cool the body.
- The fan may make some uncomfortable, but if the weather is too hot, the illness because of hot condition can not be prevented. Bathing with cold water is a excellent way to handle it.
- Use light-colored and not tight clothing.
- Never leave anyone in a closed state, especially in the vehicle without air-conditioned.
- Some people are more prone to suffer the ‘hot’ disease, especially the elderly, infants and children. They need more attention.
- Try to do activities out of the room in the morning and evening.
- If you want to exercise, do not forget sports drinks consumption because it can replace the ions and minerals lost through sweat.
- Try to pull over or seek shade when outside the room. Do not forget to protect yourself from the sun with hats, umbrellas, sunglasses and sunscreen or sunblock.
