Many ways can be done to prevent diabetes, ranging from changing eating habits, exercise to drugs. But researchers say the results of the latest analysis, simply drinking coffee or tea can reduce diabetes.
Researchers analyzed the results of 18 studies involving hundreds to thousands of participants. Studies in 2005 states a person who more often drank coffee, the chances of contracting by diabetes, approximately one-third lower than those who rarely drank coffee.
Dr. Rachel Huxley of The University of Sydney, Australia conducted a survey study of data on coffee and tea since 1966 until 2009 in patients with type 2 diabetes. Diabetes type 2, diabetes is associated with obesity and affects 8 percent of the U.S. population.
As quoted from Reuters, the conclusions from the results of the analysis is, every cup of coffee you drink one can reduce the risk of diabetes up to 7 percent. Of the six studies that exist, it is known that eating three to four cups of coffee a day can reduce the risk of diabetes up to 36 percent.
Meanwhile, seven other studies show that drinking tea as much as 3 to 4 cups per day may also reduce diabetes up to 18 percent. Researchers speculate that caffeine not only helps in reducing diabetes risk.
The other contents in these two types of beverages such as magnesium, lignans (estrogen-like substances in plants) and chlorogenic acid is an antioxidant that can slow the release of sugar into the blood after eating the food.
Clinical trials are needed to ensure both types of these beverages can indeed be a preventive medicine for diabetes. If it really is proven, medical personnel may give advice to people with diabetes to not only exercise and eat less excessive, but also lots of coffee or tea.
But remember, drinking tea or coffee is best with a little sugar levels, not like most Indonesian people usually give too much sugar.
