Bad memories Emerging from Unhealthy Mouth - HEALTHLIFESOURCE.COMDifficulty for remembering people’s names, route or series of numbers indicating the mouth of a person’s health are unwell. A study had prove it.

Dr. Bei Wu, a gerontologis from the of North Carolina at Greensboro has done a study to determine the relationship between oral health and memory.

Researchers have long studied the actual relationship between oral health and memory. Oral health is suspected to be one reason why a person’s having lower memory.

As reported by Health24, Tuesday (21/7/2009), a total of 273 patients from West Virginia to test the ability of the brain, dental evaluations, and blood check to see whether or not the protein that causes the brain’s ability decreased. The results showed that those who have low memory turned out to have poor oral health.

“It is becoming clear and it can be concluded that to obtain a complete healthy, a person must have good oral health,” said Dr. Richard Crout, mouth disease specialist from West Virginia University School of Dentistry, Morgantown.

Dr. Wu and Crout reported that an unhealthy mouth will affect brain function, especially towards adults. However, this study will continue to be developed to determine the socioeconomic status factors and medical conditions, especially cardiovascular disease.

“Unhealthy mouth is known to affect heart health, stroke, diabetes, and Alzheimer’s disease,” Crout said.

This was confirmed by Dr Tengku Johan Bahdar SpPD, a specialist in internal medicine from the hospital Bintaro Jakarta who often get the disease cases originating in the mouth.

“I often get patients who complained that a particular illness, and after being reviewed and diagnosed, the source of the illness was come from the mouth,” said Bahdar.

Mouth and teeth was closely related to the disease of the organs, such as the heart (endocarditis), brain (abscess), lung (pneumonia), skin (urticaria), bone (sebdi inflammation), and soft tissue (cellulite).

According Bahdar, infection of the teeth and gums can spread and spreading into the body through blood vessels, which ultimately lead to systemic disease in the body.

“So if one day the disease was detected in the body, best to check first, whether oral health was good or not, because it could be come from the mouth. And the treatment must start from the mouth,” said Bahdar.
